Wondering if anyone has used lm317 based variable power supply for their amps?
Is it a good idea to use of the shelf power supply modules instead of the regular tranny+ caps combo?
Something like this-
Imported AC/DC 3-40V LM317 Adjustable Voltage Regulator Step-down Power Supply Module: Amazon.in: Industrial & Scientific

Hi,
No. It is a very bad idea. They generally cannot provide
remotely enough output current for audio power amplifiers.
rgds, sreten.
Regulated supplies are generally simply not needed.

This module can deliver 40v at 2 amps.
Will this module be able to power a 150 watt amp, say like the esp p101 amp

Nope, even if that power supply could deliver "40v at 2 amps", that's only 80 watts.

Forget about regulating power for Power Amplifiers until AFTER you learn how Power Amplifiers work.
