I just got the new Mouser catalog today. They have 100, 200, 300 watt, 1%, aluminum housed resistors. In 4 ohm, 8, ohm and 16 ohm values. They are pricey however: $20, $40, $70, respectively. This may help some of you who are looking to build a Son of Zen amp.
At Parts Express http://www.partsexpress.com, 8 ohms 100W dummy loads are $11.50 and 200W are $33.50. There are no 300W.
I needed a few dummy loads, so I took a trip to one of the local surplus shops. In my low-power loads, I put 3 22-ohm, 50W resistors in parallel ($4.50 per load, 150W). In my medium-power loads, I put 12 100-ohm, 25W resistors in parallel, with a 200-ohm, 50W resistor ($14 per load, 312.5W).
I plan to build a pair of high-power loads, consisting of 125 1K-ohm, 25W cement resistors in parallel (3125W), with a fan blowing across them. This will be to test out a 2KW amp. I'll be buying these wherever I can get them cheap (probably not surplus, due to the quantity).
If you shop carefully, and with a calculator, you can get all kinds of deals.
Good luck.
