Hey all,
So now that i have my Kicker Subwoofer done i need to build a case for the amp & filter, problem is i have 2 parallel OPA541 amps, and i feel like it is not enough, the sub needs at least 150 watts in a sealed box, the OPA is doing maybe 100 watts, and if im lucky 120 watts. so i was thinking of something like this:
2 Bridged P3A amps, with 2 pairs of output transistores per amp (for running a 4 ohm driver = 2 ohm load per amp - i know its not safe BUT...) and rail voltage at +/- 30v.
the reason for that rail voltage is becuse i have 2 550VA transformers which output 22-0-22.
Possible? is it worth it?
Thanks
David

No.
If you asked Rod whether his P3A is ok to drive a 2-ohm load, he would say no.
150 watts is an insignificant increase from 120 anyway. And though I haven't done the calcs, I don't think you can get more power from your transformers unless you parallel, not bridge.

ok, thanks for clearing that up 🙂
Maybe ill build 2 P3a's and parallel em.. what kind of power are we looking at? if it does 60 watts into 8 ohms, and i parallel 2 amps, ill get 120 watts or so into 4 ohms, correct?
i would like to try get 200 watts or so.. as i have been told by a few members here on the forum that 120 watts is not enough to push my sub.. its a Kicker Comps C12 in a 36L sealed box.
if you read this you can see what i was told..

my OPA amp ran into clipping today, it ddnt sound good at all, i turnd the volume down straing away..
