"pop" sound

I built a 12V power supply for an existing car amp for home use. The strange thing is that it makes a very loud "POP" sound when I turn the power off. The switch is a brand new one, so it's not because of age. Could anybody let me know why and how I can solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Probably it's just the turn-off thump. Amps (most, at least 🙂 )go through a transient state when turned on and off which makes the popping sound. Usually there's not much to be done with it, other than some kind of circuit that mutes the amp whenever you turn it off. Check www.sound.au.com, the relay based protection does just that.

car amp

Car amps are usually connected directly to your car battery, they are switched on/off by an external voltage, applied via the orange or yellow lead.
What you can do is to connect a 12V relay across the main terminals of the amp and switch the speaker with the relay's contact.
