Pioneer SA-7500

I have a Pioneer SA-7500. No Sound. I can hear sound very, very faint through headphones. As much I would like a quick fix, It would best if I learn and develop a strategy for future repairs. I have checked the basics. As well, I have checked for rail voltage which is present.
I do not have a signal generator and am using a cd player as a source. I have a good DVOM, Analog meter and a single trace scope.
What next?

Have you inserted the links on the rear for the signal/source to the power stage?

Yes. I am getting strong hum and there was a shorted bulb that has damaged the circuit that provides power to the bulb. I now have to check that circuit.
