I searched for 563A posts and found a post from the three of you. I hope to get specifics. (This is open for general feedback, too!)
I am new at modding a DVDa SACD player.
What are the best things to do first?
What are the best bag for the buck?
do you have a service manual to share?

Hi Rick,
I know I am not one of the Gentlemen that you mention ,but I have done some mods to my 563. I think the most important area to mod is the analog section of the front left and right channels. My mods are as listed below.IMHO these took the performance of this player to much higher level.
1. removed cheap opamp and filter components used for front left and right channels.
2.replaced with OPA 2604 and better passive parts for the low pass filter.all new parts placed on a new board mounted above stock PCB.
3.added a discrete buffer after the 2604 to drive the output.
4.added hi current outboard power supply . (just for the 2604 and buffer.)
5. drilled holes and installed new higher quality RCA conectors on back panel.
6.found new version of firmware online and installed it.

Thanks.

Hi Percy,
You can find the firmware at the link in post #272 .

You have to burn a file to a CD.The firmware version is 1.906
The biggest improvement my mods gave me were greater dynamics and bass slam. The treble also became more detailed and smoother. If you want more specific info feel free to ask.

I misread your question so my comments on improvements in the previous post are regarding the component upgrade not the firmware. Sorry for the confusion.
The DV563 did not play some DVD A discs this is the what the firmware fixes.Although there are reports of some disc's still not working even after the update.

Thanks! and no confusion at all!
Is there a list of fixes/updates for that firmware ? I am curious to know if the (un)famed 200hz crossover for dvd-a/sacd was fixed or not.

The only thing I can confirm is that the firmware fixes (mostly) the DVD-A playability issue.I dont think it changed the bass management.percy said:Thanks! and no confusion at all!

I use an external active crossover to bypass the problem.
If you read the thread that I linked to It may have more detailed info.
