Practically the same product with three different price tags. I know what I would have gone for!

They are very close. Big difference appears to be in linear excursion and power handling. In this case the Scanspeak variant has the edge. I have not heard it. I can say the XT25BG version is very nice. 🙂

Throwin my hat into the ring. The Scanspeak versions absolutely do have an edge on Quality Control and in my subjective opinion sound a little nicer. Used the Peerless Vifa and Scanspeak versions in the same speaker & crossover so I know first hand. The extra magnet version haven't used but plan to for a future project as I really like the "idea" of doing so. Depends entirely on what you are trying to achieve. If budget is the highest priority go the cheapest. If Quality go Scanspeak. They are a little trickier than most to implement @ the crossover so that is why opinion is polarized on these. But once you get that sorted they are very sweet indeed. What bass/mid do you plan on running with these?
The build quality of the Tymphany versions is very good already imo. In the interests of longevity, i'd probably get the TG30 version. Less stress on the plastic faceplate and the extra bucking magnet on the BG is of little benefit anyway. I've had bad luck with plastic faceplates warping over time and causing a rub/buzz issue on the Vifa DX tweeters. The XT uses a similar design.
Mmmm TMM.
When you say the backing magnet of the BG is of little benifit what experience or evidence of actual personal interaction with the product do you base this conclusion on?
Never had an issue with the plastic faceplates myself.

I'm not sure why people say they are tricky. Maybe I lucked out and the BG version is a lot easier to do?
I did a two-way with symmetrical filters here:

I may be making this even more complicated. 🙂
The XT25BG60 is a dual magnet, deep chamber with lower resonant F and -3dB point.
However -----
I believe that there is a little confusion is happening. Some (Parts Express?) erroneously label the XT25BG60 "shielded." AFAIK it is NOT shielded. The Peerless spec sheet does not mention shielding anywhere.
I believe based on Googling I did ages ago that there WAS a shielded XT25 version, which has a bright metal can on the back covering the entire rear chamber / magnet assembly. If you can see the magnets, it's not the shielded version. 🙂

Why strive for lower Fs when you're gonna HP it high enough where tuning has no meaning? Rhetorical question.
Lojzek, I used the lower Fs to help me make a desktop 2-way. 🙂 I could not have done it with the other variants.

I didn't realize the FR was so close between the two models. If the impedance is two, I guess they are drop in replacements, the BG having slightly better distortion in the low end??
I bought a Dremel. My mate bought one too. Mine was made in Mexico. My mates was made in the USA.
They both looked the same. Did they perform the same? Absolutely NOT. Let you guess which was the better one.
Why is it any different with loudspeaker drivers?
"They have eyes but cannot see. Ears but cannot hear"
"Ain't much hope for a fool like you" Frank Zappa yo mama Sheik Yerbouti LOL
All in jest

That is a completely different problem. Peerless and SS are two independent companies, and apparently share one same design probably due to their past history. But they probably have the freedom to improve on that design so that the two tweeters could look the same but are slightly different. Or maybe there is just only a small different QC. I suspect both. My only experience with Vifa/Peerless tweeters is with the BC25TG, that despite the low cost is a good driver.
OTOH if you buy two identical looking items from the same company assembled into different factories, which perform differently, then I would just blame that company for making more profit saving on labor, parts or QC.

LOL! All these brands Peerless, Vifa Scanspeak were partly or fully amalgamated under the Tymphany banner. That led to a group of of other less than happy employees from these and other Danish / Norwegian (I think ) forming SB Acoustics. A similar break with one individual formed Hiquophon. Scanspeak amagamated the best of Vifas former products (2008)under their Discovery line. Including all patents factory production equip etc. In fact their ownership history reads like an endless swingers orgy. The ins & outs get involved shall we say. Scanspeak are now owned by Eastern Asia Technology (2014) based in Hong Kong.
"Completely different problem"? What are you talking about?
BTW I fully agree with you on the old Vifa stock people still find & liqiidate (I have a pair that I paid $30 for both, brand NOS) offer excellent and near unbeatable price perfomance ratio.
BUT the increase in QC once Scanspeak released the Vifa stuff under its Discovery line was very noticable.
I have a friend who builds speakers fulltime so I've seen thousands. There were no more slight misalignments of diaghragm to phase plug or voice coil in the magnetic gap.
Fit & finish became first class instead of just acceptable.
Cheers Mark
