PCM2706 implementation

Hello,

I have usb dac with PCM2706 and CS4344.

What you recommend to replace or change around the PCM2706 to achieve better results from the DAC?

Currently the chip's power supply replaced by a 5V linear power supply.

The seller from EBAY did not find schema, so here are photos of the converter:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Hi,

Without spending too much energy and money because the simple design : from the most important tweak to the less:

1- If the big caps are dc blockers, you can try to swap it with two cheap bipolar or two Elna Silmic 2.

2- a less noisy ldo reg (but you said you changed it already) with DC feeding not coming from the usb plug.) which is oscilation free with ceramic caps on its output (but you have a resistor to pad it down if my understanding of the pcb is correct)

3- you can try to solder on C4 a 100 uF polymer UCC (PSA or PSF serie) with a 2 mm leads pitch.

4- Maybe (not sure it worth it) a better cheap XO : like a FOX or XTC at 1 usd. But need to measure the decoupling ceramic cap to choose a compatible XO (are they 22 pF or 18 pF, etc).

This pcm chip is a little old, I should not spend so much time but for the fun of diy & tweak🙂
