Pc96
Hello,
Anyone done anything with this single triode, originally intended for UHF?
It is a relatively high gm triode (about 6mA/V) which also has a surprisingly high mu of 200. It also seems fairly low noise and linear.

Hi Ilimzn
Not listed in my data books...
I wonder if the cousin EC96 (6.3V filaments) exists?
Through my searches I noticed also the PC95/EC95/6ER5 µ=80 s=10.5
any experiences ?

Hi Ilimzn
Quoting my old trusted "Electronic Tube Handbook":
PC96
S=6,7 mA/V
u=200
Ri=10K
Pa=2,5 W
Req=400 Ohms
Filament Voltage = 3,1 V
Filament Current = 0,3 Amp

Tube_Dude, this is the same data I have. It is measured at Vak=200V and Ia=11mA, which is what I tested the tube with as well, and found that it's more or less within specs.
It seems there is no EC96, and further, unlike PC95 and 97 which are variable mu (PC95 more so than PC97) this one seems to be much more constant in that regard, which is what makes it interesting. The innards are also quite different, and it also does not seem to have a noval equivalent (PC8x). The Req of 400 ohms does not put it in the lowest noise tube cathegory, but it should easily beat something like the ECC83 🙂

Hello ,

no EC96 .

I only measured gm previously and yes, the 200 figure for mu is definitely wrong, obvious from the figures for gm and Rp. It's about 65...
Seems I finally figured it out, and the way the internals of this tube look, should have been a clue.
It seems the PC96 is closest to one half of an ECC81 (12AT7), except for the 300mA heater. Parameters at 200V and 11mA are near spot on and the construction is uncannily similar as well. Two of these with heaters in series will require the standard 6.3V for the heaters too 🙂

I do have 10+ TFK PC96 and its equate 1/2 ECC81 all the same structure and even stronger with a rod. I also found the datasheet which saied MU=200 but I think its wrong maybe 60ilimzn said:Seems I finally figured it out, and the way the internals of this tube look, should have been a clue.

Hi,
ok, it's 12 years ago, but while searching for PC96 data I found this thread. In my bookshelf I found "RFT Handbuch Rundfunk- und Fernsehröhren Ergänzungsband 1965" (Radio and Television Tubes Handbook Supplement 1965, German Democratic Republic) which contains the datasheet of the PC96.
Maybe it is still usefull for someone ...

Funny...
According to my Philips Pocketbook 1970, it seems to be almost identical to a PC92 except for the pin out.

The EC92/6AB4 is half an ECC81/12AT7. The PC96, which seems to be a German valve, has some similarities.
