PC-Soundcard without PC ?

Hi folks, and a happy new year (for my first post this year)

i just asked myself - Is it possible to use a PCI - Soundcard (not PCI-Express !) whitout a PC for audio applications ?

(For example Terratec EWX 24/96 or E-Mu 1212M or ...

The benefits : Small, powerfull, cheap and modular extensible and ...

Is there anyone in here wich tryed to do this (or allready did) ?
Does a Soundcard allways need external (Software) to do it's functions ? (For example PCI-Express cards force need of external processor; but PCI has all proccessors on board)

does'nt sound like a bad idea..I've always wondered if i can do a clock upgrade on my soundblaster

Without the pci bus you can neither initialize nor send commands and audio data to the card.

From what source do you want the card to play the music?
