I recently or more so my father recently tared apart a lovely HMV
cabinet valve amplifier with turntable/radio that was running stereo from two 6GW8 single-ended valves, one which was faulty and causing hum so I managed to find a replacement for that
and a goner cap underneath which is still pending replacement along with all the others.
This amp managed to run my 150watt behemoth's at 8ohm!
Up to about 1/6 of my normal 50watt amp could do before it hit guitar-like distortion! Hehe not bad for 4watt tubes!
Anyway the cabinet gone
, i'm left with the descision to make up a cabinet of my design (preferrably horn) and place these in use once more...possibly if I can get the cash with a pair of 'recommended' midrange and tweeters...I don't believe in bass.

They have tweeter cones and sound apsoloutley beautiful!

Yes I am taking good care of them.
I was wondering what you Aussies have heared in terms of reputation about mainstream quality of speakers in the oldies still floating around in dumpsters as bewieldered ghosts of scott himself?
The speakers are Magnavox LAMEX Magnaflux, Model: 8 P1X
Patent no 234180-237457.
Cheers.😀

so why add Tweeter and Midrange units ????????
🙂 sreten.
Sure
It won't be the best quality (picture), and you know what they do sound too good to add a tweeter 😛
I'll post one soon, gotta find the digicam first 😛
They might go good in a horn with a bass addition?

From the size of the motor these look better suited for an open baffle (or a suitable QW design)... the Q might well be too high to do well in a horn.

Yep, I have some similar, and they work nicely on a (cardboard) baffle.
Ahh very cool just what I need, something to hang up on the wall!
I'm now considering an open baffle with 'school' design 1x3 foot width, 3 foot tall 1 foot wide...
Upside down so I can get it on the wall and still manage to sit down while listening.
Would this be applicable with 'good' sounding speakers or would I need to make them larger?
They came from a 4watt amp so I'm not sure on the max for them.
And they're definatley nice sounding all the way from mid-bass all the way to high-mids without anything at all...
Cheers folks. Time to get ready on some nice wood and shellac.
Btw which brings something up, what kind of wood would be nice for a single all-rounder cabinet? I have the resources to get almost anything..well almost.

I tell you one thing, these things really mess up my understanding of amplifier-induced noise, I mean i've placed them on every amp that i've got all of them transistor, except for three.
Out of the two trans amp's one of them made no noise at all, my Yamaha 😛
Other than that the Sanyo and Sharp were TERRIBLE...
They /really/ emphasise the noise!
The valve amps emphasised only hum, weird? maybe due to alernate driving ohmage?
And with synth like from old amiga's that sound like they're cutting paper, those things sound like a dancing electronic field I could lean out and grab ahold of 😛
These 'whizzers' are damn fine.
I've also found that with Jazz and mostly instrumental that they sound better than voice but they pretty much blow away my old speakers..
I think i'll someday post the findings of a mic setup 😛
What's the software you usually use?

I think i'll cut up some cardboard tomorrow taking care not to damage the speakers
and fold some boxes 🙄

All I can say is WOW!
These things come ALIVE in a box with distorted guitar 😀
George Thorogood is very very fine ;P
Percussion bass horn's and voilin oh my god violin!
I can't say enough about violin!
