What's your experience with the projected vocal image size from your open baffle if the overall baffle width is large - somewhere > 20" ?
Just to give a little background on my indecision, I have with me right now, 4x18" heavy duty pro drivers for the dipole bass, a pair Jordan JX92 and a pair of Aurum Cantus G2Si.
Also with me is a driverack DBX PA to perform the active x-over and eq stuffs. Amplification is a DIY 2 x 4 channel gainclone monoblocks in balanced configuration.
I am very particular about vocal image size such that it should just be as large a human's mouth and not any more bloated.
Which configuration should I build my dipoles ? ALA Linkwitz Orion or ALA JAMO R 909 (using a single large ~20" baffle) ? Can the Jamo configuration give me the focus I need ? If it can I'd be very happy cos' the consruction is very straight forward.

I haven't built a dipole, but I once built a large baffle for BSD compensation issues.
People say to me, you need a small baffle to get good imaging; and I think, it's the same thing going on above and below the wrap around frequency, just a different frequency. Virtually all baffles do this at a frequency that we are likely to consider critical.
I feel that wide speakers can image. I think it has more to do with the speaker as a whole, than the baffle width alone.

Yes I also think it has to do with the speaker as a whole (phase relationship and x-over freq) that affects the image size. I just need more confirmation.
You see, there are 2 contrasting designs between the Orion and Jamo . Orions using large 8" mid driver with a considerable small baffle wherelse the Jamo using a 4" mid into a large baffle.
