I own a pair of Shanling SP-80 Monoblocks. For those of you who don't know these are really integrated monoblocks. As many have found the Amp section is a fairly good design, however the Pre is lacking. Right now these have a Chinese OpAmp (opa2604ap). My question is whether or not I can drop in a Burr-Brown(now TI) opa627ap without any other modifications? Thanks in advance. If you need more info let me know, I'm an amateur at best.
The OPA2604 is a dual op amp while the OPA627 is a single.
Someone does make an upgrade which consists of 2 OPA627 surface mount chips on a board which plugs into the old DIP8 socket. Perhaps search "Shanling Upgrades".
I know this because I'm working on a Shanling CD Player right now which has this upgrade in it.
Cheers,
Ian

The OPA2604 is one of my favourites subjectively for audio. I would be interested to know the results of your swapping it for something else.

It is weird to discuss opamps in this forum 🙂
One other thing you need to check (measure) is what rails are the 2604 powered by? The 2604 accepts +/- 24V rails, which a 627 won't, and since we're discussing a tube amp, the higher rail voltage may well be why it was chosen.

Isn't BB the only one that makes the OPA2604? It's a pretty good op-amp, I'd leave it.
I replaced my 2604 with OPA2227 and it sounds really good. i am still waiting for them to burn it and hopefully they sound even better.
hey-Hey!!!,
Google up 'Brown Dog Adapter', and you'll find what you're looking for. I dug these guys up while hunting DIP style OPA4134 and found them no longer available. I was into a Rane AC22B actove cross-over that had( errr...still has ), some issues.
cheers,
Douglas

What?! Just for posting to the Tubes forum I think we should suggest a
tube op amp alternative.
Not sure if that schematic is any good. Here is a thread that touches on the topic.
