It's mildly amusing too.
It points out the lures, obsessions, and endless desires and proclavities of certain types in society.
Additionally, it also highlights the marketing aspect and its fish-hook style of baiting with the power of suggestion and superficial appointments.
Human minds are obviously different, with some more easily succumbing to such pricy trinkets for their mental medication.
Others in that group I suppose attempt to feed their other shortcomings.
