Can I use the Transofrmer to power a pair of GC's? Not much writing on it, so I dont know what the specs are on it, Has anyone used one before? I would like to use the UPS chassis for the external Ps for the Gains and the Musical Fidelity X-10D that I'm going to convert to a single source PreAmp. Will she have enough juice?

Better GC than UPS

It will have to make a better amplifier than it did a UPS:

APC Recalls 2.1 Million UPS Units

I cant even speculate why, but my experience with APC has been that the cells fail faster on them than they have on other Units.

I’ve been rather fond or Lieberts and I understand that Fred-D has a fondness for Triplite. Fred’s experiences were very interesting, not to mention that he seems an many ways to be a lot smarter than my self. (wish he was still posting)

But that’s not what you’re asking about.

As a power supply you'll likely find a beefy transformer, but I think I'd avoid using the rectifier.

If the unit were still working I think I'd try to steer you towards running your GC off the batteries (wont need the AC inverter).

There was a nice article a few months ago by Karma who built a nice GC out of a used computer UPS.

Clear as Mud?

(yet to actually build a GC)

Actually the unit was working fine, including the battery, but then stopped, so I pulled it off the users desk. Upon tearing it apart th eother night, I found out why. There is a very small fragile transformer and one of the leads is broken. I guess I'd better actually build a traditional one before I start messing with something as esoteric as making a PS out of a UPS.
