Has anyone done anything with these? It seems like they could be useful for noncritical applications or unique art exhibits. How picky are they about diaphragm shape, stiffness, thickness, etc? Are there any frequency response plots of DIY results out there?

also as you'll find in that thread they are used in the podium planar loudspeaker which got good 'hi-fi' reviews... an honeycomb stiff leightweight panel seems to take the best out of them in the podiums:
