Newbee wants to build Aleph!

Some questions from a DIY newbee (my only experience in building amps are class D monoblox based on Hypex UCD400AD).

- Wat is preferrable to start with: to build the Aleph 5 or the Aleph 2 monoblocs? Does in matter anyway in terms of complexity?
- Is there a large difference in sound between Aleph 2 and Aleph 5?
- How will the Aleph's sound compared to the Hypex modules?
- I have Kef 105.2 speakers. They are rather power hungry, although my Sumo Nine+ (65W) drives them without any problem. Will the Aleph 5 be powerfull enough?
- Does anyone have experience with the material delivered by rt-audio.nl? They offer pcb's, housing, matched mosfets, dale resistors etc. in a one stop buy. Or is it preferrable to buy the pcb's from kk-pcb, and search the web for the components?

Thanks for replying!

Dirk, thats a lot of questions:smash: You will be more than lucky to find someone answering the lot🙂 I will give it a shot:
1: Aleph 5 is the way to go! Easy, and probably doable for a newbie like yourself!!
2: Nope, dont think so. The biggest diff. is the watt's🙂
3:The Aleph will sound way better than the Hypex!!! No doubt!!
4:Well, the Aleph 5 is rated at 2x60 watts, I think that is enough for your speakers.

RT-audio?? No experience at all! If I were you, I would follow the footsteps set out in this forum🙂 Check out Peter Daniels GB on PCB's! They are scalable!

If you need more info, let me know🙂

@steenoe: do you have link at hand? I searched a bit and all info about modifying Aleph30 pcbs to Aleph5 was (from http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=615409#post615409)

Its basically the same. Source resistors for A5 are 1R, A30 has .47R. 3 fets for output and 3 for ccs for both. i know the input is a bit different for the A30 which results in a higher impedance for single ended input (i think). i studied the schematics but im a bit new at this

in addition to 34V rails.

I would appreciate a bit more details!

Thanks a lot!

Have fun! Hannes
