Presented in the ZDnet video The lightbulb of the future?, Luxim (known for projection and street lighting products) have developped "tic-tac sized", RF-fed bulbs (i.e. no electrodes through the glass that could become points of failure) which reach staggering efficiency (i.e. very little wasted as IR) such as nearly 25.000 lumens of 6012K light at 170 watts and a lifetime of 20,000 hours. The manufacturer has several press releases since last October and trade show appearances scheduled where some on this forum might have the opportunity to discuss availability and options for use in DIY projection (presumably requiring a version at no more than 10-30% of the maximum output).
Cool. Thanks for the info.
I think the DIY effort just got kicked up a notch; I hope their pricing will be reasonable.
