Well, I have around 300 dollars to spend on a pair of speakers. Actually, I am leaning heavily towards buying some Grado SR-325's, however I wanted to see if there was any ideas for a project that could approximate a upper mid-fi sound for around 300 all together (possibly could extend to 400).
The qualifications is that the -3 point can be no more than 40hz. These will not be used extremly loudly at all (apartment building, which is why I am considering headphones at all). I love the sound of my reference (or atleast what I consider reference) towers (active triamplified, dual 10" Dayton reference, Vifa 4" PL, Fountek ribbon tweeter), and found that the grado's sounded a lot like them actually.
I would like something can approximate the level of resolution with them, but less expensive. I want a floorstander.
I have been thinking about the Dr. K MTM in a floorstanding arrangment, but I'd like to try it out in terms of a transmission line. I saw a reference to a project like this once, but couldn't find anymore information, does anyone have any thoughts?
I was also thinking a full-range single driver application...? Anythoughts?
