I have had a pair of Plitron 4006 (VDV2100) sitting on shelf for a number of years together with the matching power trannies. It now time to get off my butt and do something with them.
Specs are 1885 Ohms Raa to 5 Ohms
100 Watts
20.7 Hz to 217 kHz (-3dB points)
40% Ultralinear taps.
Construction will be a pair of monoblocks - I don't insist on screwing the full 100W out of them but would hope to get at least 50 W.
I'm prepared for the possible necessity of running bias servos to balance idle currents.
I hope to run low or zero global feedback.
Anyone have any advice on the "best" way to use these.
Options I've considered so far are:
2 pairs KT88, KT90, 6550 in Ultralinear (or triode mode)
3 pairs KT66, KT77, EL34 in Ultralinear (or triode mode)
2 pairs JJ 300B triode mode
Given the cost of the trannies I'm not adverse to the cost of 4 300Bs or similar for each monoblock.
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks,
Ian

An Allen Wright style amp with the 300Bs in class A should be good for 50W (Allen gets 25 from a pair). The high output impedance of the differential cascode would allow RH-style feedback (you started a theme with Baby Huey, Ian)
