New member car sub box design. Looking for insights

Hi everyone. New guy here and I have a sub box plan for which I am looking for feedback. It is a trapezoidial prism housing 2 JL 12W0V3-4 subs. All the info regarding port and box gross and net volumes is in the graph. All dimensions are internal measurements. I have modelled in WinISD and all the info should be on the graph to plop in and view the charts. I did apply a 20Hz infrasonic filter within WinISD...just FYI. This is going into the trunk of my old cougar... 500w 2ohm configuration. If anyone has any constructive insights/observations, please...respond. Thanks all!

Your response curve adds a +3dB ~30Hz, the Cougar's cabin gain might add another +12dB down there, and the upper response may not make it into the cabin.

Anyway, might sound muddy, especially if you like chest thump more than pants flapping low frequency.
If you have any speaker you can put in the same position as you plan to put the sub, you can get an idea of the Cougar's transfer function.

I can remember the low bass from a 6" woofer that rolled off at -12dB per octave below ~50Hz sounded great in my old Torino GT 😉

Thanks! Yes..I have 2 12's in it right now. They are the JL W0v3-4 subs..but they are in a cheap ported roxbox enclosure. I had a single 12 slotted wedge JL in it but that was stolen when car was broken into. These dual 12's I bought as a replacement with building a box in mind. These sound horrible right now...so boomy and bloated. So...I can totally get what you are saying about the sound being way to over the top with cabin gain...maybe just a basic sealed enclosure ..as a wedge since I am limited to 13 inches of height. It just seems when I model sealed in winisd with those drivers, they don't dig too deep but they are definitely flatter on the response curve. Perhaps simple sealed wedge to start, maybe 20% larger than JL recommended enclosure of 1.25/sub.

I have seen a lot of those get fitted into much smaller boxes and sound great, give them a test listen with about 30L behind each driver. My 12W7 is in a 35L ported at 33Hz and 10W3V2 in a stock box that is ported similar. The ports are very narrow, about 20mm and width of the base of the wedge xsection box. They sound gorgeous, but the 10 is packed and put away in favour of the 12

There are a lot of these running around Sydney, and many of those passed through my workshop (not install. Construction and finish/trim only). I have never seen the JLs in the size of boxes that you are looking at

I think I was reading too much into the output drop of the sealed and the failure of low reach on the ported in winisd. I think I am going to take some measurements on the the car cabin with a calibrated mic and rew. That should help a lot

Hmm, way back when I was using ~ 20-25 Hz/0.2.25 Qt drivers in Camaros, etc., I used sealed tuned to 80-90 Hz for ~flat to Fs and with high Qt like these I used lossy boxes, i.e. ~ open baffle (OB) damped to 'taste' 😉.
