Need some HU advice please

Alrighty fellas (& gals),
I need some advice/help if you wouldn't mind. I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring LXi 4-door sedan. It came with the Infinity Premium Sound system with 120-watt amp and a 4-disc CD changer. I just replaced the front door speakers with Infinity REF9613I 3-way speakers (100W RMS with 300W max). The other speakers are the tweeters in the front dash, and the rear are Infinity as well but are the premium factory 6x9 ones (no idea on RMS or max watt). I do not plan on replacing them until something goes wrong with them as they do sound nice for the factory speakers. I don't plan on buying anything else until I can afford my full upgrade. So the following is where I stand.

Here is my decision, I will be upgrading to a HU that has a USB port for my iPod in the future but must save up for it (poor college kid with car payments), but in the meantime, would I be better off installing an Alpine TDM-7582 I have sitting around being unused from my old car or keeping the factory HU? The specs for my Alpine HU are 4 x 19.5 RMS, 45W x 4 Max, 1 pair of Pre-amp outputs, and an M-Bus CD-changer controller hookup. The only thing I know about the factory HU in it right now is that it is part of the Premium Sound System, it doesn't appear to be different from other HU that are in that year's Sebrings, so I am assumming that the only difference is the upgraded speakers, the amp, and the 4-disc CD-changer.

Another thought, if I do go with the Alpine HU as a temp fix, would it work wth my current factory CD changer? I have no clue if it is an M-Bus or Ai-Net hookup on he factory changer. Bad news is when I got the car (used) there was no owners manual and I can't find squat out on it on the net, but everything was in primo shape(til I blew a speaker, lol).

I'm just looking for some thoughts. I have enough technical savvy to install what I currently have so that wouldn't be an issue, just want to get some more educated ideas on the matter as I want to get the most out of my new speakers. Thanks guys.

CHOP,

As a certified Alpine Nut, I would go with the 7582 for now, but first, see if/how the factory Amp was used with the system. If it took the speaker-level signals from the factory HU and attenuated them prior to amplifying them, then you're in for a little custom wiring.

If not, then you should be good-to-go. If you can get some info either online, or at the Chrysler dealer, this might help you out in understanding how the amp figures into the whole system.

EDIT: Almost forgot, I am not sure if the 4-disc factory changer would fit in the M-bus DIN socket, but with Alpine 6-disc CD shuttles on eBay getting pretty reasonable, I would go the eBay route.

Cheers,

Steve
