Nad 3140 has loud hum when input selector switched to phono even with no turntable attached. Ok on tuner and aux.
Nad hum
No. The hum is there when turntable not attached. It increases and decreases with volume control. It is not there when input selector switch is set to tuner or aux.

You must excuse my ignorance but I thought that with a selector switch for phono 1 and 2 that this should not be an issue. Unfortunately I don’t have shorting plugs and can’t find any online. This hum exists on both phono inputs and is affected by volume control from silent to loud. This is with or without turntable connected to either input

Hum aside, does it actually pass a signal OK?
How good are you with multimeter and soldering iron?

Phono stages do have a hum/noise that goes louder when volume is increased. Even without a turntable connected

Shorting a phono socket is doable with a short piece of bare wire (assuming access to the socket is easy).
