My Projector HP F50

I have been reading a researching DIY projector for awhile and have just started getting all my things ready. I Bought an HP F50 15" monitor off ebay for $30 it's backlight were starting to die but that obviously doesn't matter. I needed to buy an 18 Pin fCC extension off of LumenLab (still has to arrive) another problem with this monitor is that there is a thin board about 4 inches long that I swear is just meant to self destruct. I managed to get that off without breaking though. I also got an Elmo 305 Solar Deleuxe overhead projector which I will take the 7300 lumen light bulb out of and the projection lens. I will put this in an mdf box that I am going to custom machine at work with the CNC machine. I bought some fresnel lenses to even out the light distribution as well. We have a lot of lexan at work and I should be able to get a piece for UV blocking. I have heard a bit about IR blocking and was just wondering if there is a noticeable difference if you add this? Is there anything you think I might be forgetting ?

In a 15" projector, and one you've built paying attention to airflow across the LCD, IR blocking is not usually necessary. It's more of a consideration for small-LCD projectors where everything is much closer.

Cooling the LCD is important though, better to design for more airflow than you think is required. Try to get a squirrel cage blower, since those will move air against resistance much better than computer fans.

Update: Well, I used a conductive superglue to glue the fcc extension in place so I'm not sure if I will try and remove the glue and try again with a non-conductive glue. if somebody wants to use this monitor make an offer. I bought the monitor for $40 and the power adapter seperately for $40 aswell. I know the monitor worked because I had in before I tried the fcc extension. I think that I am just going to buy the kit from minoten it looks pretty goood. Does anybody have any experience with it to give me advice wether I should get it?

On a somewhat better note I got my elmo solar deluxe today and it is very bright and has a very nice lense in it. I had to pay $76 just to get it across the border into Canada but I am pleased just to have it here. I am not sure wether it would be worth the trouble to strip the overhad and mount everything in an mdf box like I was originally planning. I am now thinking I could just mount the lcd directly to the overhead and then built a box around that. Any suggestions?

I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but I saw a thread taking about logic for fans to keep going after you turn the projector off. I am using the internals from an overhead projector and it comes with about 3 temperature sensors in it that leaves that fans running after you hit the off button until the temperature is safe.
