I have a pair of MTX 81000D Amplifiers and the power supply makes a loud humming noise, one amp is louder than the other.
The Noise is transferred to the speakers. What inside the amp could be causing this?

If its the actual power supply of the amp ive only had that happen with 1 amp a Rockford 501BD. I cant remember if it came out of the speakers too though. The amp went out a within a month or 2 anyhow...
does the amplifier hum without the signal cables connected to the amplifier. If it only hums with the cables connected, I would check into a possible ground loop problem, or check the grounding of the headunit.
I once fixed a friend's system that had a bad case of ignition noise in the subwoofer. different (better shielded) wires did diddly. there was also an input grounding screw on the amp; connecting it to the headunit's chassis also did nothing. Grounding the headunit to the amplifier's ground point instead of the vehcle chassis also did nothing. Later, i ohmed out the head unit's RCAs and found that the ground was not connected. I guess that there was a bad solder connection between the RCA jacks and the circuit board. I grabbed some RCA Y adapters, connected them between the HU's sub wout and the cable going to the amplifier, cut the other end, and then connected the grounds on the Y-cable to a screw on the chassis. that fixed the ignition noise. quite odd.
