Motorized projector lift (scissor lift?)

Does anyone know where to find some DIY plans for a motorized projector lift?

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I am looking to build a remote controlled lift for a small DLP projector, dropping about 10-18inches into the room.

I don't know where to get plans, but scissors jacks like that are commonly used in chemistry labs, so readily available. They are operated by turning a screw. It shouldn't be hard to attach a stepper motor to one and program a uC to control it. A stop switch at each the end of the range would tell the motor drive when to stop the motor and which direction to run it in when it starts again.

Sounds like a fun project.

I did some looking around and there are units available - but they cost like $2000 - $5000 US. Fixed supports go for around $125.00 and up.

Just type in "motorized projector lift" into your search engine and have fun saying - @#$#@% I could buy a good projector for that much $$$

Exactly why I want to D I Myself....i'll look into the chemistry route.
Just found out this May my father and law retires...and I have the perfect project to keep him busy!

I have this on the brain too.

I think it can be simplified by using a gearmotor, limit switches, and relays.

...and a lot simpler if a wall switch were enough.

I dunno yet if I have the joist clearance though.

Look up "lab jack" on ebay and pick up used ones a lot cheaper than new...

If one doesn't extend enough for you, get a couple identical units and combine the scissor mechanisms from them to make one long one.
