I just picked up a ST70 on EBay that has a new 7199 driver board (PC-3 CK), the Curcio quad cap module (PC-S7UB), and a set of Mullard EL-34s. It works nicely. Not sure about going to a different driver board especially with the new parts on this board.
But what's up with the extra tube sockets?

Somebody had an idea (maybe a cathode follower driver buffer) that they didn't get around to building.
Just ignore or remove them, whether or not you use the stock driver board. There are chrome hole covers
available to snap into those holes.

Agree with "rayma". Nice mounts anyway.
Yes, at least they used a hole punch, instead of mangling the chassis with a drill.
Remember that the 7199 is not available.

7199 IS available. It's just an issue of price.Yes, at least they used a hole punch, instead of mangling the chassis with a drill.

For holes up to 3/4" a step drill bit will leave very clean holes.Yes, at least they used a hole punch, instead of mangling the chassis with a drill.
I used to own ST70. If i am not wrong it should be feeding some other radio or something. There is a pin each socket for you to adjust the bias. You may remove them and install a V.pot which commonly people do. The driver board looks like a rebuild and exactly the same. For me i dislike the sound. I had change the entire pre board to 12x7 and 2 12 au7. Triode the el34 and sound super good. Have fun!
