There's not usually much to learn from 99% of military schematics. They're so long in design, development and trials that they're often 10-20yrs out of date design-wise when in service. Anything unclassified will also be pretty low tech.
 
For this purpose all the magic would be in the DSP post processing. It's not all that much of a stretch to get down to the theoretical 1.7 nV per root Hz noise floor of the bipolar transistor. So the magic has got to be digging the signal you want to hear out of background noise (that the mic will pick up). Those algorithms are probably mega-classified an not easily DIY. A low noise preamp is the EASY part.
 
The best DIY I showed, not the theory of computation is important. Audio system is set and thus reality can be checked in practice.
Confirm that the audio quality of the sound itself could not be better. More of my audio technique I do not have to show.
