Please help. I'm a novice. I have a nice pair of Acoustic Research loud speakers. Probably built around 1980. One sounds great but the others midrange and tweeter are dead (they're connected) . The bass sounds fine. They were replaced about 15 years ago and look like new. I took it apart and all the connections look good. What do I likely need to replace? I see the board and it has 2 white bars with ratings on them. Is this a job I might be able to handle or what should I do? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
the first thing you can do is to see if mid and tweeter are protected with a fuse, on the crossover board. Maybe it is burnt and need to be changed.
first test the mid & tweeter that don't work: disconnect them, get a 1.5 Volt battery and connect it across the driver terminals briefly; if you get a click, they're OK, and the problem may be in the crossover - probably a dodgy electrolytic capacitor, good idea to replace them anyway. If no click, you'll need to recone or replace the driver.

Thanks for the replies! I disconnected the midrange and wired them briefly to a 1.5V battery. NO click. Same with the tweeter. So I guess they're dead. How does the tweeter receive its signal? I see how the midrange's contacts are wired directly to the cone and I see how the tweeter has contacts as well. But the contacts are in no way connected to the tweeter!!, Does it receive it's signals wirelessly by magnet? (Clueless). Thanks!
