micing an amp

Why is it that with a small amp you can have loud guitar however if you plugged a mic into the same amp you hear diddly squat?

cos the mic in question has a lower output than the guitar

It would just overdrive the mic pre on the pa... and consider that a mic has a much lower impedance than a guitar pickup... in the order of 1000:1.
