LifePO4 Battery Build Instructions/Parts

Hi, I have used pre-built batteries (batteryspace) to power my boomboxes before with the best luck coming from those based on 26650 LifePo4 batteries. I'd like to build one myself but due to space restrictions, I can only use 4 18650 batteries.

Can anyone point me to a build thread on this type of battery? I'd like to incorporate a BMS.

I searched here and posted on the class D forum and got some suggestions for parts, but no references to a thread that shows wiring diagrams etc.

Any thread or video suggestions are appreciated.

Building My Own 50Ah LiFePO4 Lithium Battery Pack

The only complication with you battery chemistry I can think of is that you must choose a BMS that is designed for it and not the more common Lithium Ion.

I have built a 16S, 20AH Lithium battery with 50A bluetooth BMS. Its very simple to attach a BMS but obviously you have to be very careful as you can't turn the battery off and everything must be done in order.

Generally what you would do is:
1) connect all cells in in their series parallel groups after ensuring they have the same output voltages
2) connect negative cell terminal of BMS
3) connect balance wires in correct order, my 16S BMS came with 17 balance wires so the first wire is connected to the cell negative terminal. This is a duplicate connection, 15-17 wires would be normal for a 16S BMS.
4) attach wire to battery + terminal
5) you should now be able to draw current using the BMS negative output port and the battery + terminal

Thanks.

My build will be much simpler with just 4 cells. I am looking for a BMS specifically for LifePO4 batteries now. As you suggest, I am finding a number for Li-ion.

The boombox is already built. Its a boominator mini, but I am going to glue a subwoofer cabinet onto the bottom and then switch the amp to a 2.1 amp from parts express. I have to rebuild the xover to be smaller and build a new battery for everything to fit into the electronics compartment.
