This new installer works wonderfully.... installs Snakeoil over a base Ubuntu 20.04.
There are RPI and X86-64 builds too !
No Pulseaudio...all Alsa goodness ! (make a small donation to unlock the goodness of multiple outputs, cpu-set and other wonders)
This dev is a great and humble one-man-band and deserves your support.
Given that the O/S is so mature and responsive why have we not all been following and testing ??

Had a look but a one man band maybe has to do with it. Also not amateur friendly but geek friendly. Compare the website to other popular choices and notice the difference.
All good but still limiting factors for popularity I guess.

I hear you...🙂 Though this forum is Diy-audio so all you diy-ers who shun 'popularity' do look and try yourselves...😀

Yup, it is about DIY Audio and less about the OS. Before one knows it one chooses the least suitable hardware and the best OS 🙂
Sounds like the fellow is on the right track. In my most unhumble opinion ...
Not sure there is anything here that is not already a part of WTFPLAY which is quite simple to use. Speaking of sonics and of course this is pure mindless speculation.
I completely agree with his recommendation of a simple computer setup but I think he will find if he turns off SATA in the BIOS and uses only USB he will get an improvement in sound quality.
Instead of using those USB filters just power all USB devices with outboard regulators. This also puts less load on the HDPLEX/L ADAPTOR combo - turning off SATA makes a larger than expected reduction in power required. One uses the headers on the motherboard and deletes the power pins where they go into the header adapter.
(I am using a small ASROCK board with integral CPU - using the HDPLEX module in the ATX slot powered by a SALAS L-ADAPTOR)
USB drives for music storage are powered by an EBAY regulator that I have had around for years - the USB to the DAC uses a SALAS shunt regulator.
I think it does an great job for a very reasonable amount of money.
I will give this a try though I am not that excited about having to turn on the network stuff.
Oh, well ...
Thanks for the notice of existence!
