😕

Marantz CD75MKII, has a good review, where it actually was preffered in some ways over the Marantz CD85MK2. but i has a cheap plastic case, but could be upgrade and the good CDM1MK mech.

Yamaha CDX-810U, is much better set up with beefy power supply Elna Durex, Nichicon, Blate gates (6 in total), the opamps are JRC20685 ( cant be replaced, as they are 8pin ( not 4 per side like other 8pin opamp) is there such an adaptor for these

Which player to keep

Hi Godfrey,
Thank you for the reply. Yes, i think they are opamps. From what they say they are not so good., so little about them. Doesnt say if they are single or dual

I see that I can get DIP8 to SIL adaptors

There is NO QUESTION in my view that the CD75mkII is the one to keep. The CDX810 has a horribly failure-prone platter motor that is just about unobtainable, and is a cheap brush motor in the first place, and the mech is just wholly inferior in performance & reliability to the CDM1mkII. It would be unwise to spend any time or money upgrading the Yamaha, but the Marantz will be VERY rewarding in sonic terms to put upgrading efforts into, and last just about forever, once you make all of the electrolytic caps Nichicon or Nippon Chemicon.

Thanks Stephen

Actually, I bought the Yamaha CDX810 on the cheap as the laser was going and I had to spend a bit at my tech, to get a new laser, and have it adjusted to fit the mechanism, as it was TAOS1 or something. Tracks okay, but no where near as fast the the Marantz of changing tracks. Both units in great physical condition.

The blackgates, are the real reason I was considering keeping it. I was just researching i can get a few good caps at digikey, Elna SlimicII, Nichicon Muse ES,FG and KZ. Limited FG, maybe mix some around.

I just got my opamps today for the Marantz CD75MK2 and Philips CD850MK2, including a socket so i can swap out opamps.

Not sure what caps to use in the power supply of the Marantz.
