Hello,

Ive been given a Kam KXR1000 amplifier with apparent fault.
The user has specified that the amp goes into protect.
Unfortunately I have not got any loudspeakers to check the amp with.
But I have had a signal from tone generator running into the amp and a digital oscilloscope connected to the outputs.
All seems fine, except the fact that the clip light come on way after the amp is apparently clipping in terms of output waveform.
Have tested at 100hz and 1000hz, all seems fine on the amp, it is producing the correct amount of voltage and does not protect at all.
My only question is whether there is a possibility that loading the amp wit a loudspeaker whether the results should change.
If Im not wrong, the amp works fine unloaded and therefore should work when loaded. My only conclusion is that maybe the customer has fault with his speaker which is causing a short and therefore some short circuit protection is engaging ??
Lke I say the amp delivers a perfect result unloaded.

Thanks

Geoff

Bit Pricey for this job, to be honest Im waiting to pick up all my gear from Austria. Was looking to find out if in general terms an amp shouldnt really display protection errors if it runs unloaded perfectly. I.e if it were a problem with one of the fets, surely this would show under a no load condition as it would either be blown open or closed ??
