Hi, not HiFi by any means but I wonder if anyone has experimented with building a passive horn to boost the sound from an iPad I.e no electronics. There are some rather nice wooden units, but I wonder if much thought has been given to the characteristics of then iPad speaker in the horn dimensions. I was thinking of a solid wooden tray, maybe 1" think that the iPad drops into and has a routed horn mouth with it.s narrowest point by the iPad speaker, emerging on the right side of the tray ? A lip around the edge means the iPad screen is level with edge of the tray and provides some acoustical sealing.
It would be nice if the tray could take a commercially available (and ipad compatible) keyboard/trackpad!
Didn't someone do this for the iPod out of card board?
I think it was a thread here.......
I saw that. Search for it, very cool construction, buy I recall it was not calculated dimensions.
Here she is.....http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full...ng-little-different-quick-easy-ipod-horn.html
Within that thread, there are some seriously cool designs therein (found in individual posts) so be sure to read through all the pages.

Nah, I just chucked it together in typical teenager style. 🙄
Did I mention I've rebuilt it using duct tape?

PS - watching this thread with interest.

Actually, I think that is far more impressive. True ingenuity. That is how new things are discovered. Not googling to see if anyone has tried it before, like me...
I hope Chris661 you built it in a shed as well, in the best British tradition!
🙂
Oh, what I would give to have a shed. Nah, being a whippersnapper at 17, I'm still at home. So it was on the dining table.
(Imagine the above said with a broad Northern accent, and you're pretty much there).
