So I got a little overzealous yesterday in trying to replace my 5Y3 rectifier in my TV-7D/U which operates the "A" setting on the tester.
After replacing the rectifier tubes tested "warm up" but when I press the button to check the tube the needle on the meter does not move. This also happened on a 5U4 I used. This was working previously before opening the unit up. All the other sockets seem to work ok so only the A setting isnt properly working. Shot in the dark but would any of you have an idea on what may be wrong??

A bit unclear on the problem you are asking and settings you are using, as the internal 5Y3 is not involved with the Range A, which applies 35VACto rectifiers. The function switch on A tests diodes/rectifiers that are plugged into the tester, not inside the tester. Make sure you are setting the bias to 0, and the shunt to the indicated value, and then press push button 7 when testing a rectifier. Sometimes one can damage the connections to the push buttons on the side when reinserting the tester into the case. Also the function switch or one of the other switchs may not be fully engaged (or damaged), so try to reset (move back and forth the switch to clean the contact, but do not spray them with cleaner). Check the socket voltage on the pins with button 7 pressed, if no AC voltage, work backwards from there. There are numerous manuals available online for doing a systematic problem solving for the tv-7, such as TM 11-6625-274-35, review fig. 8.
