help with replacing my transistor on my Electrocompaniet

Good evening to everybody!

i need your help!
The transistors (driver and output stage) on my elecctrocompaniet ECI-4, just burned last week.

Up till now the only way to find out what happened is to check the board for short circuit (thing that i did) and.... for the fact that a feedback network is applied and so then is no any longer possible to evaluate the circuit unless all the parts are replaced...and then from that....trying to undersupply the stage and search the problem.

(If anybody wants to give suggestions i accept them!)

The components that i need are:

- complemantary motorola MJL 3221 and MJL 1302

- ( i think those are toshiba, but i'm not sure...i cannot say from the pakage...there no name...augh)
A 1350 Y and C3421 Y

- BD 679 (on the package i foung the mark ST MRC.... is it the trademark of STMicroelectronics?)

i would need a selected complementary transistor since those bjt are feeding a push-pull output stage and a phase splitter stage rispectively.

I would like to know, if anybody knows where i can find those selected couple on internet (and also the bd679 of course ) for a good price.

If the selected couple are really that expencive, is it convenient for me to select on my own or it's definitely better to buy just the couple selected by the companies?

thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Stefano.

sorry to post this 3d on this section.
I 've tried to put it on the solid state's section but i didn't receive any real answer 🙁
I don't know....here may be somebody else sees it and may help me out...hope!

Hope this post won't bug you guys!

Best,
Stefano

the following table would rapresent my order:
(all the pakages are plastic)

Manufufacter Part numb. Qty.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Mototola MJL3281A 5
Motorola MJL1302A 5
Toshiba 2SA1350Y 10
Toshiba 2SC3421Y 10
ST Microelectronics BD679 5

I forwarded my email to different companies but i haven't gotten any answer up till now.
It might be possible that the quantity is not enough to make them considering my order.
But otherwise i don't have any clue where to buy those items.

Do you have any link contact or any where i can possibily attend to?

Moreover: how coul i buy selected part? or could i select (since the low cost of this parts) the transistor on my own? if yes, how?

Thanks a lot!

Have you found any of the transistors you need?

At the place I usually order they seem to have:

2SA1358 PNP TRANSISTOR 120V/1A/10W
2SC3421Y NPN TRANSISTOR 120V/1A/10W
BD679 NPN TRANSISTOR 80V/4A/40W DARL

I couldn't find the motorola devices. I don't know if this is similar (I havn't checked schematics)
2SC3281 NPN TRANSISTOR 200/200V/15A/150W

But I couldn't find the complementary pnp.

well....it's difficolt to find all the parts.
The dial is that i would like to buy the exact part from the same manufacter.
For example the 2sa/c by toshiba, the bd by STM and MJL by Motorola.

What's the dialer that qre you referring to?

well....as far as i know the motorola's devices sound better and are a little more linear than on's devices.
But eather way....since are really cheap....i guess that i can test this differences by substituiting the motorolas on the working channel and try to catch those differences....

but the point is .... can i buy few units as a private person and not a company from on semiconductor? or i have to buy the enire stock!?

has somebody ever bought from onsemiconductor?

the only problem with buying at on semiconductor, is that i have to buy 25 parts and at the end i just need 4 of them...and if i buy 25 for each part....you understand the exceding material and the extra money that i have to spend.
.....it would be great if it would be possible to buy samples for each part but it's not....i found a sample for one of the components that i need....

anyway....i would rather prefere to have the motorola....and as far as i know...there's also a post on this forum that outlines the fact that motorola sounds better!

But i'm not able to find motorola's website (for the semiconductors other then www.motorola.com)...i would like to check if i'm enabled to buy samples.
A dialer told me that i could have bought samples form the motorola website and toshiba website.....but i don't see this possibility coming true.

May somebody explain me how and IF i can buy samples from motorola and toshiba or not at all??

Hi Stefano,

The ONsemi parts can be ordered from Digikey (www.digikey.com)
in single units.

It seems that Motorola hasn't been making transistors
(commercially at least) for a few years now; all that went
to ONsemi. If you want Motorola-labeled parts, you
probably need to look at shops which sell surplus/NOS parts.

Have you tried posting a WTB message in the MarketPlace
forum?

Good luck with your search.

Cheers,
Dennis

Hi Stefano,

This is really too bad. You live in a country that have given us Dante, and you cannot find some crappy transistors. Do you know these lines:

Allegro mi sembrava Amor tenendo
meo core in mano, e ne le bracci' avea
madonna, involta 'n un drappo dormendo;
poi la svegliava, d'esto core ardendo
lei paventosa umilmente pascea:
appresso gir lo ne vedea piangendo

Of course you do. It is the second half of Dante`s first sonnet from "La Vita Nuova".
I love electronics, but I also love poetry. If you send me your adress by mail, I will give you the needed parts. I have repaired EC amps in Norway for at least 20 years, and I have these parts in stock.

eheheh you are great!!!!!!

By the way.....i know that verses.
Dante Alighieri was such an important writers.
That style is old and so the italians don't use that form of expression anymore....but it's still awesome to read it.
I'm glad you appreciate the itali's poetry.
We had other interesting writers that i would suggest you to consider such as

Giacomo Leopardi
Ugo foscolo

those are just some of the old classic.

Going back to where we were 🙂 thanks a lot for your willingness to help me out.
I couldn't find those parts anywhere.
For instance the motorola transistors.
All i could find was the on semiconductori that as far as i know don't have the same sound.

If you have the motorola, toshiba and sti you wold immensely help me.

As far as you know: do i need selected pair for my ECI-4?

Ah if you give me in private your number we can make arrangements.
thanks a lot for now!!!
