Hi,
I picked up a pair of 18 inch Audiosphere AR18AW, 8 ohm subwoofers back in the 80`s at a shop on Queen Street in downtown Toronto. I cannot find the TS parameters or even comments on this driver on the web. They are not expensive (I overpaid retail about $150 each), but they have very low distortion and efficiency seems quite high. Magnet about 50 oz. 2-1/2 in VC, tarred corrugated surround. Felt center cap. Non vented pole piece, stamped steel frame. Fs IIRC is around 21 Hz. They worked very well for me in a smalish BR cab of about 6 cu.ft. with 180 RMS amp per driver as a subwoofer in my old big living room system.
I want to use one of these per plywood enclosure salvaged from a Bozak B305 system (had two of those fancy framed Bozak 12`s with the twin splayed tweeters in front and a 5 inch single midrange). The boxes are about 7-8 cu.ft. They are not close for me to measure.
I want to cross them passively to a wooden horn with 4 inch paper cone driver at about 300 Hz sitting on top. I am after a speaker that will excell on a low power SET of just 3 watts. Absolute bass extension is less important here than efficiency down to 35-40 Hz or so.
Does anyone have the TS parameters on this woofer they could share?
Any suggestions for a good cabinet. Should I do an Onken with these Bozak boxes or just conventional reflex port(s), or even a labyrinth inside to form a TL?
Thanx for ideas.
