Hafler DH 200

Hello Friends, I bought this amp but when I power it up there what I call a power surge and the speaker make loud noise ,feels like it will blow speakers. any advice what do do Thanks Alex

P.S.I read that this amp does this but think that my amp is a little extreme 😎😕😱

Always check DC offset first!

The first thing I do *with any amp* acquisition, is to first check DC offset (+/- 10 milli-volts) It would be easy to damage your speakers, blister your voice coils... I try and use shorting plugs on the amps inputs. And I have / use, **10 ohm 50 watt power resistors to load the amps outputs (with no speakers connected) Providing the amp a stable starting point to evaluate it's health.

The stock, DH200 driver cards ALL have high DC offset due to the aging of the front end transistors. All caps, main power supply and PCB electrolytics are suspect (given the age) too many of these amps were ridden hard, put away wet.

Always - always check to see what "speaker protection fuses" are installed in any of the Hafler amps. I would start with a 2 amp fast blow, until you know a little about the amp... People do some crazy things...

I never hook any second hand amps direct to my speakers without checking the DC offset first... Even If a buddy brings over something to hear through my system... I will not take chances on the unknowns, we face with vintage gear...

For note: **I always use the same (10ohm / 50 watt) resistors to bleed the main P/S caps before ever touching anything inside...
