Here's my comment posted the CBC page and words for Gord.
Hey Gord, I'm almost speechless, but I feel like I need to say something. Everyday I think about how short life is. It reminds me to make the most of the time I have with the people around me.
I remember when I was 16. It was summer break and I had gone out to Elie, Manitoba for a few weeks to spend with a family friend, and give my parents some much needed reprieve. He showed me how to stucco a big house and also thing or two about horticulture.
I listened to the Day for Night album on repeat. When I came back to Winnipeg I had money to burn. At a friends house, I was the weekend vip, I had the beer money. I also had the attention of a cute girl, who wanted to walk back to my parents with me for a cash run. I was 16 and I was feeling lucky.
Long story short is my parents weren't as enthused and suggested I go to juvenile hall instead. So in the back of the cruiser is where I found myself banging my head against the cage in protest. The officer's pleas for me to stop were drowned out by my polite refusals. It wasn't until Locked in the Trunk of a Car came on that I told them I would stop if they turned it up. They cranked it.
I realized it wasn't so bad, they had a big plate of cut watermelon at the front desk and it seemed every time someone walked by they would bring me some.
Things have changed a lot since then but through out, your music has been like a close friend. In our constantly changing world, with it's way of making us all feel even just a bit lost sometimes, when The Tragically Hip comes on it's the most solid and real reminder of who I've been and where I came from.
I'll see you on tour.
