So I picked up one of these from the thrift store yesterday. It came with an old shure cartridge... it sounds pretty good, but I think I could do better. anything out there that is pretty nice for cheap?
also, looking for a phono pre amp. yes, I am aware of the bottlehead stuff. I have built a ton of it and I love it. however, I might even be looking for something cheaper that I could add a few bucks in parts to to make it pretty nice. for now, I am definitely not looking to break the piggy bank. I just want my records to sound nice. good tone is the most important thing to me for now.
I suppose that a synergistic cheap setup is important to me here. the phono cart sounding good with the pre amp.
well thanks a bunch,
Clark

also,
the speed is a little high on it. I have tried cleaning and lubing the thing. it is still fast.
read the service manual. tried everything that makes sense, still a tad fast. it is a 60 hz model too.
hmmmm
