Time for a few Isaac Newton quotes.
"There is one thing stronger than all the armies in the world; and that is an idea whose time has come."
"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."
"No great discovery was ever made without a bold guess."
"We build too many walls and not enough bridges."
“A man may imagine things that are false, but he can only understand things that are true, for if the things be false, the apprehension of them is not understanding.”
“Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy.”
And a friend gave me a new one this weekend, which he also attributed to Newton
something along the lines of "wether you believe or don't believe something can be done, you are right"

Yeah well we often don't do what we know is best.
My grandma was one of those "do as I say, not as I do" types
Now how about we build more bridges...
What is the worst thing that could happen if any of the unusual ideas actualy turn out to be true or not?

All humanity is set back if wacky BS competes with reality. It is like distortion in your hi-fi. But, then, I guess, some like "euphonius" distortion - you single ended triode types know what I'm talking about, don't you?
I'm afraid your perception of humanity is a little too first world at this stage to be remotely representative of the average human on earth.
When someone said many years ago, hey maybe we can transplant organs and the donor would live, I'm sure there was a great indignation and much unbelief. We are now at the stage where brain transplant experiments are succesfully occuring..
same thing can be said for nearly any advance made towards civilized humanity (the type I think you have in mind), at this stage I would say the global average of mental, spiritual, emonional development and social concience and responsibility is closer to our past than our future... I.e. seen as one organism we are still very primative.
There are those who made the system work for them, and naturaly they will do anything they can to keep things that way. Does it make them bad? Not by neccesity, its just the way things are.
I think it is always important to be visionary and to realise the world does not exist to serve you, or even the time period you live in. Boiling down to balanced reprocriation wich is the reason for all life activities in the animal kingdom. We live to serve our children and theirs.
By saying what you see is what you get, you deprive not only yourself of discovering alternatives but the very offspring you were born to create.
The world as it is now, is not a concept working well, and more of the same is not the answer.
Sadly I can no more teach you to be intelligent than I can teach you to run the 100m in under 10 seconds or to compose a song that captures people all over the world.
This post is a far deviation from the original topic, but it is done in hope to balance all the "you're a dumarse" and "can't be done" posts.
Imagination and judgement are equal yet oposite aspects of even the most simple intelligence.

In one of my posts I mentioned Buddhism. I have no particular interest in Buddhism, and though my statement unwise so I edited it out within about five minutes. Next time I checked my E-mail I had been invited to join a Yahoo group on Budd ism.
There are a number of possabilities on this one, someone on this group caught my reference or my general interest in such matters and refered me, If so please step forward. My reference was trawled by a search engine and refer ed on, which would be a pointer to be careful of what we say. Lastly it could be coincidence.
Any other suggestions.
By reducing an argument to its constituent parts and then finding the flaws in each part, we may or may not have proven that part is true or false, but we certainly eliminate the probability of truth from a multiple of supporting arguments. A lot of the source material is partial and therefore we have to look at certain subjects on a balance of probability overall. This of course is not pure scientific method as such, but science is not wholey applicable to all areas.

Nordic,
I have no idea where one might go for a brain transplant, but I am sure that if anyone could tell me, it would be you.
The beauty of the scientific method is that it allows for intelligent creative types to explore new ideas - with the chance that these ideas can be proven wrong.
Your entire post is a series of non sequiturs. Ironic that you believe that I am the one short on intelligence. It must be the kool-aid that you are drinking.

psych&sound said:Ironic that you believe that I am the one short on intelligence. It must be the kool-aid that you are drinking.
No, its ironic, that YOU believe I believe that.
You certainly are well spoken, and generaly you bring interesting points to the table when you can get beyond the person to the discussion, not everything in the universe is aimed at you.
I have learned that less confrontational ways of expressing an alternate belief leads to a much better place of understanding for BOTH parties, the truth ultimatly is a reward for both the guy who said it will turn out to be as it did as the guy who believed the truth was something diffirent. Both will receive the relief of the truth equaly. This paragraph was aimed at you.
So, what is the reason for your or our existance in a scientific way?
Brain transplant! Wow!
I used to be a member of Mensa, we had the local meetings at our house (yes, really). It's supposed to be the top 2% of IQs, but I can't swear to it. You see, someone stole my brain after that. Never been the same since.
So this brain transplant thing is very interesting to me. I hope to reclaim my rightful place in the universe, the place that the vast underground conspiracy of brain snatchers as taken from me. They never did want me to get ahead.
SET Euphonic distortion? Not the ones I've heard. Clean as a whistle. That's what makes them so nice. (And I love the pretty glow. Ooohhhh.....)

if we can get past that technicality, or even incorporate it we could arrive at one of 2 options, "our" existance is meaningless and random like the universe that would go with that line of thought.
Or you will have some theory....which to get to the point I don't think you could ever scientificaly proof in a way that does not require a stretch of the imagination like even ordnary religion.
I will not respond further along these lines in respect to the original thread and also the gray area we may move into regarding forum rules. Feel free to us the e-mail function if you wish to persue the conversation privately, there is nothing i find more enjoyable and informative than good openhearted discussion. Sometimes people say some little thing wrong, but we don't throw away every fruit over the tinyest imperfection.
Expecting anyone to get everything right all the time would be as unreasonable as expecting to be able to do the same. Therefore I will allow myself to at least hear what the thread starter wants to convey.
I think the number of post trying to disagree in a scientificaly argumented way could be counted on one hand... none of mine would be in there for sure.

I'm surprised nobody has posted this link

not exactly free energy...
someone posted Brown's gas before... this seems like a better documented link, and it DID make CNN and FOX a couple of times.

There is a strong smell of scam around that Aquygen stuff.
edit: Yup. http://www.randi.org/jr/2006-06/060906just.html#i3
It's just the same old Second Law-ignorant hydrolysis stuff.

Now that things have cooled off a little bit I for one am still interested in the original subject of the post.
Regarding Tesla, my understanding is that his final experiement - the one that destroyed him - involved a private power station and a Vander Graf Generator. He created a surge of power which shorted out the power station. It is my understanding that this was a "free energy" event.
Does anyone have an explanation for what happened and has anyone furthered his research in this field ?

Yes, he blowed himself up real good.
What actually destroyed him was a heart attack at the age of 86.
From the Wikipedia bio:
In his later years, Tesla was regarded as a mad scientist and became noted for making bizarre claims about possible scientific developments. Many of his achievements have been used, with some controversy, to support various pseudosciences, UFO theories, and New Age occultism.

I was talking to a friend today about Stirling Engines. Seems to me that this technology in combination with a heat pump would be a good solution to many energy issues. Household unit could provide heat and electricity and eliminate the cable losses inherent in conventional electricity supply.
Of course that would mean less control and profit for the electricity suppliers - which wouldn't be a bad thing.
