Hey Guys -
New to the forum. I found an old pair of JBL L40's literally in the gutter and they still sound really good! I ordered a woofer repair kit to fix the surrounds, bought some new speaker terminals, and am attempting to refinish the cabinets as well. A few questions:
1) There a lot of old fibreglass insulation in the cabinet. Can I replace this with foam rubber? Sound better? Sound worse?
2) I'm thinking of redoing the black finish on the front of the speaker. Would standard spray paint suffice? (Flat, of course.)
3) The tweeter's pushed in on one of them - what do you do about this?
Thanks for any other advice in refurbing these guys - can't wait to get them rocking!
Cheers,
Cody

put your mouth around it and - suck. Sounds weird., but works - when you have small kids around poking their fingers at things you learn fast enough.

--> fibre glass is superior compared to foam, but some people are afraid of particles coming out of the reflex port...

Good advice, but try and do it when the kids are not around.... or only when the wife is around depending ......
😉
Thanks guys - I tried that, it didn't work! I even tried using a shop vac, no luck there either....
