I was thinking of a 3 way tower that sounds good, uses cheap speakers as follows:
1) Dayton Audio ND16FA-6, Part # 275-025

2)Fountek FE87 2" Full Range Driver 8 Ohm, Part # 299-022

3)Titan 15" Ribbed Paper Cone Blue Surround Woofer 4 Ohm, Part # 299-1056
this woofer facing sideways in a sealed enclosure.

Would this work, sort of like an entry level project? Looks like it would need a 2.5 way crossover cos that fountek seems quite versatile. Any takers?

😕😕😕

Not sure what to make of the woofer.

Since the parameters looked rather... interesting shall we say... I plugged them into an online box calculator and the optimal size for a sealed cab is -387L while for a ported cab it is a whopping 26077.3L!

Using more practical sizes always seems to lead to a narrow 9dB hump.

Hi,

No way can you go 2.5 way or use the woofer on the side.

TBH your drivers are not well matched, The Fountek doesn't
really need a tweeter. The bass unit is a high Q, huge Vas
nightmare in anything but an open baffle. Its sensitivity
is not enough unless its really at 1m and 1W (which are
the wrong units for sensitivity) in which case it would be
3dB higher at 1m and 2.83V - 89dB being 4 ohm and 2W.

For a first project, I'd recommend running with an established design, probably a single full range driver to minimise parts and expertise and cost.

After several less than illuminating builds, I built a pair of Woden Redeyes, which I'm pretty happy with.

In your case, to pair with the Fountek, maybe try the GRS 8SW4? A relatively simple 2 way.
