Hi vynil lovers,

I bought yesterday a 1257 Dual, supended sub and ULM arm as I found out in the dual page. I paid 9 euro (yes, nine euro). The cartridge and stylus was in bad condition, but the rest of the tt is in pristine condition!!!

I'm thinking about to fit a good cartridge, and maybe to build a new chassis, but don't know if it's worth the effort, Does anybody know this turntable?

DUAL

Hello,

Looks a lot like a DD TT for DJ with built-in stroboscope.
I would try to find a decent cartridge for it first (Shure,Stanton for example) then see if you will still want to build a chassis for it.

Regards,salutationes,

Frank.:)

Hello Raka,

I have a Dual 522 and I have found a 1257. The concept is the same, but 522 is little better.
Dual 1257 is a good turntable but need some modifications. First, you need a Dual "G adapter", with it you can mount any 1/2" cartridge. I don't know if you have these adapter, but you can find it at www.phonophono.de for only 15€.
For cartridge, you can find a AT95E for 26/30€ in Germany and it's a marvelous cartridge for the ridiculous price.
Make a good and heavy chassi and put tar under the tt.
With good cables and RCA connecteur you will have a very good tt.

Don't forget to lubricate what need to be

Dual is less know and have a less reputation than Thorens but it's a mistake, Dual have made a lot of very good cheap TT. My 522 modified with valve preamp and valve amp with full range is very good.

Cordialy

Pascal.

ULM/OPS cartridge recommendations

The Dual ULM/OPS tonearms require a very low mass cartridge. Ortofon were the original suppliers to Dual, and the OBM10 is inexpensive here in Canada.

I think it must be able to purchased for Euro$35 or so.

The brass weight must be removed from the top of the cartridge for use in either of these tonearms.

As to wether or not to use it as a primary deck, there may be better but for so little money there is no risk in starting back into vinyl ( or a complete introduction).

Good luck

busy with my dipoles. I miss that spelling war

Ah, Knappertsbusch playing Khachaturian? Don't remember it as a war though.

Have no recollection of any dipoles; too busy for a full disclosure?

Hope you'll enjoy this extreme example of classical LP artwork .

Hi,

Frank, what are you smoking?

No idea what it was I was smoking on 10-21-2002 07:38 PM....

Looks a lot like a DD TT for DJ with built-in stroboscope.

It hasn't changed one bit though...It still looks like...Oh well...

You're either not into cheap TTs or not into DJs or both

Both...and you know it.;)

Anyway...good to see that TT has found a new home.

Cheers, ;)

jajaja, not war of course, but battle (pacific ;) )

Absolutely piece of art the lp you show. I specially like the pictures in the boxes of 3 or more LP's.

I have one for you, and more interesting since is a known one: Sergej Rahmaninov

HI
I have a DUAL 1257 turntable . With out cartridge .Unfortunately I don't find a Good cartridge to mount into the 1257 head shell .
If some one know where I can get that 'G' adapter or if someone have a regular Dual tonearm like the Dual 510 I would be interested on it .
Thanks for any help!!

Regards
