Drivers and cabinet design for 20 - 100 Hz region

HI there,

Not long ago, I built my full range speaker using RAAL, c-quenze and Flexunits and I get a very good response. Some of the building information can be found here.

Choice of Speaker Drivers

However, it starts to roll off below 35Hz

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I want to build an woofer/subwoofer to supplement the lowers octave region about 15hz to 100Hz. This will probably be in a separate cabinet.

So far, I have come cross some drivers and would like to ask for your opinion

This is the most expensive but the parameters are also impressive
accuton® Carefully selected loudspeaker drivers.

To stay with audiotechnology line of drivers, here are the options
Sandwich cone
Sandwich cone

Morel has another option
Morel 12" Ultimate Subwoofer Kit: Madisound Speaker Store

but then, the other option is to choose real subwoofer line of drivers like this
Rythmik Audio • GR servo driver
JL Audio 12W7AE Subwoofers - Car Audio Subwoofers

Also, would a sealed design be better then ported design for better damping and better transient response for music reproduction?

Any suggestions are most appreciated

Thanks

Personally I am very fond of Volt and ATC short-coil woofers.

As for cab design I like transmission lines.

Respect to Accuton for publishing distortion, on the other hand the plot looks quite scary for a sub. That said it looks excellent between 75Hz and 650Hz.

In my opinion, the driver will have little to do with the situation. The number of independent sources that you use and how you set them up is far more important than the actual driver. Power handling can be important if you like very loud levels and then a pro driver like a B&C 18" is impossible to beat. But then this takes a really big box and using several of them takes a very big room. In my 24 ft x 14 ft room I use three 12" subs and get good response down to about 20 Hz. They are all basically close box designs. Ported is not a good choice if you want to go very low like you say. The ports need to be too small for this low tuning.

What I don;t understand is how you results look so good as is. I don't see any "modes" in your data at all. How is that possible? Is the room huge? or very open?
