I'm planning to build a TT, I found a Panasonic video head drum motor assembly. Is there any possiblility to fix a platter on top of it to save my job on bearing? anyone using this idea?

Why use a platter at all? Just place the record on top of the video head and clamp it and Bob's your uncle. It can be adapted to work with Edison cylinders as well.

Thanks for your input. Yup analog_sa, you are right, I should clamp it
strait on the video head drum , a special platterless TT 🙂
I got the original schematic of that VCR, now I even thinking of building a new servo PCB to direct drive the drum spinning at 16 / 33 / 45 rpm 😉

Hi all,
Platterless TT might suffer from vibration on vinyl itself, but I wanted to give it a try. I had checked the internal motor for the drum, seems like too small to drive a platter, but for driving a vinyl to 33rpm constantly should not be a problem. It contains 9 pole and connected as 3 phase delta configuration.
