14" x 14" good quality single fresnels with about 8" FL and 14-15" FL. Another thing might be good quality -0.75 - -1.25 diopter 65-80mm concave-convex lenses (that wouldn't distort image when used with projection lenses to lenghten the FL and throw of the projector).

Like mhelin said large good quality fresnels , a lens to decrease image size, triplet lenses, condenser lenses, and solid design plans. I also had trouble at first finding a good light source. Of course I have found most of this stuff now but in the beginning it was very hard to find all these things.

Yeah, it's going to be immpossible to say any one LCD is THE unit to use with this project. People on the boards have proved that ANY LCD will work... it's just a matter of how much you wanna put into it to get it working.

I do agree with davneil that a lightsource needs to be worked out.

Large quality fresnels arent hard to find they're just EXPENSIVE! I can get them but I didnt think people would pay $110 for a SINGLE fresnel. And you'll need 2 of them! I'm using large format fresnels from AWI. Full screen 15 inch with both fresnels behind the LCD. One has an 8" focal length, the other one 15".

The zoom lens is a good idea. I think a few other people on the boards are trying to get that going.

zoom lens

a Zoom lens is something that I think i will definitely need if I want to get a DIY project running in my room. I was wondering if you placed 2 lens triplets next to each other (or adjusted distances) would it magnify the light, thereby zooming the image? I remember when I was messing with the ghetto DIY fresnel projector that using 2 fresnels (cheap, thin plastic ones) together magnified the image greatly. Will someone who has 2 triplets try this?
