Hi, I got several digital pots few months ago.
Just found in specs, there is a limitation for the permissible voltages on the pot terminals.
The limitations are with respect to the digipot Vss(ground) and Vcc(positive):
from -0.3v to Vcc+0.3v
So, what about if I simply DO NOT connect the digital ground (the +5v) and analog ground (+-15v).
Applications:
- volume control
- baxandal tone control: http://sound.whsites.net/dwop-f12.gif
Could I use these at least for the tone control?
Lifting up the ground +2.5v is not acceptable, especially for the tone stack.
All this sh*t is a serious flaw in my initial research and compromises the whole project 🙁:
- arduino board controlling a few signal relays, 2 power relays and 5-6 digipots via remote control

What if I make the digital PSU with +5 and +2.5 voltages, reference the analog ground to the 2.5v and offset it with respect to Vss and Vdd?
Then I guess I don't care for input/output caps removing the DC from the analog circuit.
The preamp module is a seporate unit and won't affect the source and PA ground.
Finally, there might be some voltage swings exceeding +-2.5v in the analog part..
F.ex. on power up. Would these destroy the digipots?
