Did I kill my Philips CD-60?

I replaced C2521 47uF. The machine doesn't seem to recognize a disc has been inserted.
When I press Power+Play+Stop, I get
00 00 P 1.07
When I press
>>|
the display goes to 00 01 and the laser bobs up and down. I don't detect a red light from the laser.

Why did you replace it?

Did you put it in the right way around?

I replaced it because my unit had a problem, and I had read that this cap causes trouble.
The original blue cap had the gray stripe closer to the edge of the PCB, so I oriented the new cap's green stripe the same way.

The polarity is correct. Look for some other cause. Solder bridge etc...

What was the original problem?

Some caps need to be exactly the same capacitance value.

If you took out the CDM please check you inserted the flatcable of the CDM deep enough and straight into the connector, if not this is what can happen i noticed.

@bajjisw The unit made a whistling-whining noise, a steady tone of about 600Hz, which could be heard over the music. I was told it might have had something to do with "wobble frequency".

This is from the Service Manual. Was I supposed to put the CDM4/19 into one of these positions in order to run the Power+Play+Stop routine?

Please read the entire service manual. I've generally found them to be well written and useful.

Does it have debug flowcharts? The one I used had to be done in sequence.

It may be that the combination of mounting and tilting the unit as in the picture makes the CDM mechanism level.

You need to check everything related to the laser supply circuit.

Place a phone camera above the laser to detect any light.

@bajjisw I have been through the entire SM, numerous times. The Fault Finding Tree calls for Service Positions 0, 1, 2, and 3, yet nowhere does it depict them.
I have attached a section of the Tree. The remainder of the tests require two Philips Test Discs, which cost $200 and $250.
I have also attached a portion of the SM from a different machine, which would be more helpful to someone at my level.

@electron-ic I will get a digital multimeter, then I'm sure I will have some questions for you!🙂
